Director of Sales Engineering

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on, founding Director of Sales Engineering to build Orion’s SE function from the ground up. This is a player/coach role, with heavy involvement in deals, POCs, and field activity during the first year, and the opportunity to build and lead a small SE team as we scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery, demos, POCs, security reviews, and RFPs for enterprise deals
  • Partner closely with AEs throughout the full sales cycle
  • Design and own Orion’s SE playbooks, POC processes, and demo environments
  • Act as a senior technical voice with CISOs, security architects, and engineering teams
  • Represent Orion at field events, customer meetings, and industry conferences
  • Gradually build and lead a small Sales Engineering team as the business grows

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years in Sales Engineering / Solutions Engineering roles in B2B tech
  • 5+ years in cybersecurity, supporting enterprise customers (2,000+ employees)
  • Strong hands-on technical background (agents, integrations, APIs, logs, POCs)
  • Proven experience running complex enterprise sales cycles end to end
  • Experience building or scaling SE motions in a high-growth startup environment
  • Comfort operating as a player/coach, with a strong bias for execution
  • Willingness to travel and be active in the field and at events

Nice to Have

  • Experience in data security, DLP, or SaaS security platforms
  • Background at both a large cybersecurity vendor and an early-stage startup
  • Prior experience mentoring or managing Sales Engineers
